Base Camp Baited Bear Hunts (6 Day Hunt)
On a bait hunt, the days start with waking up whenever you want and having either a hot breakfast or continental type breakfast, depending on the days hunt plans. Then it’s up to you...there’s some trout fishing nearby. (You get three days of fishing with your hunting license) You can also enjoy the local hot springs and scenic drives. Best hunting times are early morning and evenings, just like hunting any other game, but you can harvest bears over bait all day long. AFTER you harvest your first bear, you can pay $500 to keep hunting for a second bear. License and tags can be bought locally upon arrival License is around $200 and tags are $42 each May, June, and September
Base Camp Spot and Stalk, Hounds, and Bait Hunt (6 Day Hunt)
I only do two weeks of this kind of hunt a year. The bears are in the huckleberries, and it can make for lots of action. We will walk and drive and glass and find the right elevation for the best ripest huckleberries. And when we find one bear, we usually find a few! If we see huge tracks in the dirt and can single out a big bear, we’ll lose some dogs; or we’ll just quietly slip along and spot and stalk big huckleberry patches. Our area is tremendous in size, so we never run out of places to look that have lots of huckleberries. We’ll be up early each day, eat lunch out of a cooler, and come in late; but we’ll be into bears and having fun!
