Native Lakes
Native Lakes is 30 miles south of Houston, Texas and 8 miles north of West Galveston Bay. Situated in the middle of thousands of acres of rice farms, fish farms, and managed waterfowl units all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, Native Lakes is positioned in the heart of one of the largest birding and waterfowl wintering grounds in North America. Native Lakes was originally a reservoir built to supply water to the neighboring rice farmers in the 1950's, so it's been a favorite hangout for wintering ducks for a long time
